Shanshan Song is a Senior Director of Engineering at Uber Inc., where she leads the Storage, Search, and Data organization. Her team plays a pivotal role in powering Uber's online trip serving services and offline data analysis, leveraging open-source technologies to make critical business decisions daily. Shanshan's organization is responsible for the development, operation and maintenance of essential data infrastructure services, including Kafka, Flink, Pinot; data analytics services such as Spark and Presto; database services like Docstore, MySQL, Redis, and Cassandra. Additionally, her team develops and manages search solutions like Sia and Opensearch.
Before joining Uber, Shanshan was with VMware, where she contributed to the vSphere team by building the vCenter Server Appliance, a product that powers nearly 50% of data centers worldwide. Prior to her tenure at VMware, she worked at Oracle as a database kernel engineer. Shanshan holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Southern California.
