Enabling an Open Ecosystem for GPUs and Accelerators - Alison Richards, Intel (UXL Foundation)
Tuesday November 19, 2024 11:30am - 12:00pm PST
The landscape of computing has changed and the majority of software developers are looking to use architectures with multiple types of processors, in particular GPUs. The emergence of modern AI techniques has further accelerated the usage of GPUs and new AI processor architectures to achieve the performance required by neural networks. The challenge developers are seeing is that different architectures often require unique languages, tools and libraries, adding complexity and limiting code reuse. The solution is to provide a single way to develop across these architectures, and the basis for this must be rooted in an open, standards-based programming model and libraries. The UXL Foundation was formed to tackle this, and we are working together to build a solution to these challenges – providing an open, standards-based way to develop software and deploy across vendors. This presentation will show how the UXL Foundation is evolving its projects to meet the vendor neutral demands of software developers by adopting open standards and open source, and how our members are using the projects to enable projects like PyTorch and TensorFlow.

Running GenAI Apps the Cloud Native Way - Arun Gupta, Intel
Wednesday November 20, 2024 2:00pm - 2:30pm PST
Enterprises are eager to adopt Generative AI to increase their productivity. OPEA, the Open Platform for Enterprise AI, is a new project with the Linux Foundation. It provides a framework of composable microservices for state-of-the-art GenAI systems including LLMs, data stores, and prompt engines. It provides blueprints of end-to-end workflows for popular usage such as ChatQnA, CodeGen, and RAG systems. OPEA applications leverage cloud-native architecture to simplify deployment. It even includes a friendly high-level pipeline definition language for deployment on Kubernetes. This session will introduce OPEA, key component microservices, and how GenAI applications can be composed using those microservices. The attendees will learn to start with OPEA by deploying their GenAI application on a k8s cluster. Explicit contribution opportunities will be shared with the attendees. You'll also see an open source OPEA playground running on k8s, and how to contribute your components to it.

Adopting CDEvents and Embracing Interoperability - Andrea Frittoli, IBM
Wednesday November 20, 2024 3:45pm - 4:15pm PST
The software delivery lifecycle landscape (SDLC) is rich with tools and services that help engineers automate every step and aspect of the software production process: configuration management, testing, build tools, artefact storage, deployment and monitoring. How do we connect all these tools, and adopt supply chain security best practices while maintaining a good developer experience from beginning to end? The CDEvents project aims to help solve this problem through standardisation and interoperability. In this talk, the speaker will introduce CDEvents, its vision, the latest news and roadmap; he will present how the project’s shared event format is being adopted by various tools across the SDLC and how interoperability enables a consistent developer experience and helps to achieve a secure software factory.
